A leading real estate investment and development group in Central and Eastern Europe is hiring a Chief Accountant in Hungary. This is a key leadership role in the company's financial structure, with Hungary undergoing a transition from outsourced accounting to an internalized team.

Department Set-Up - Hungary
- Total headcount: 23 employees
- Ongoing transition to an internalized accounting team (from outsourced services).
- Close collaboration with the Group Head of Accounting in Bucharest and local finance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including ledger entries, reconciliations, and financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws and GAAP/IFRS standards.
- Manage financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annual statements).
- Supervise the budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Lead external audits and liaise with tax authorities.
- Hungary: Build and develop an internal accounting team, transitioning from outsourced services.
- Collaborate with regional and group finance leadership.
- Work closely with regulatory bodies and internal departments.
- Provide financial insights to senior management.
- Implement internal controls to enhance operational efficiency.
- Drive improvements in financial processes and reporting.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years of accounting experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise (60%) combined with leadership & communication (40%).
- Mandatory local accounting certification (CPA or tax consultant preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of Hungarian or Slovakian tax and regulatory requirements.
- Familiarity with MS Dynamics and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Fluency in English (written & spoken).
- Big 4 experience is a plus.
- Ability to lead a growing internal accounting team (Hungary)

- Salary Range: €2,500 – €2,850 net
