Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) of the Events Centre will oversee the strategic development, operations, and commercial success of a world-class events venue. The GM will be responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences, maximizing revenue, and positioning the center as a premier destination for high- profile conferences, exhibitions, and social events.
The GM will serve as the chief executive of the Events Centre, with full P&L responsibility and a mandate to establish the facility as Africa’s most iconic hub for global conferences, exhibitions, and upscale functions. This role will drive commercial strategy, operational excellence, and brand positioning across regional and international markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a business strategy to establish the event center as a leading venue in Africa.
- Operational Excellence: Ensure seamless event execution, high service standards, and adherence to global hospitality best practices.
- Revenue Generation: Drive sales, sponsorships, and partnerships to optimise financial performance.
- P&L Ownership & Business Expansion: Lead financial strategy, operational scalability, and long-term growth planning for the Events Centre, with full accountability for business results.
- Innovation & Technology Integration: Champion the use of smart event technologies, sustainability practices, and digital customer experiences to set new standards in event delivery.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with corporate clients, event organizers, and government stakeholders.
- Brand Positioning & Marketing: Collaborate with marketing teams to enhance brand visibility and attract premium events.
- Events Budget & Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, cost controls, and financial planning to ensure profitability.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 10 years in event management, hospitality, or venue operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Executive education (e.g., MBA, hospitality leadership certifications) is a strong advantage.
- Experience reporting to a Board or C-Suite, with strong commercial acumen and stakeholder influence across public and private sectors.
- Proven track record in managing large-scale events and driving revenue growth.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in high-end hospitality, luxury venues, or conference center management is preferred.
