The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing country-specific medical plans, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and leading strategic initiatives to improve patient outcomes in rare diseases. This role involves a strong partnership with internal teams, external stakeholders, and thought leaders to drive innovative solutions for unmet medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the development and implementation of local medical strategies for rare diseases, ensuring alignment with regional/global objectives.
- Provide medical input into business planning, identifying key research questions, and ensuring targeted solutions.
- Partner with the commercial, marketing, and market access teams to communicate the medical value of therapies, ensuring market access and successful product launches.
- Clinical & Scientific Expertise:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and execution of clinical studies, registries, phase IV studies, and other post-market activities to support rare disease therapies.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the disease area, clinical practices, and patient needs, and share this knowledge with internal teams.
- External Engagement:
- Develop and manage a network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and external stakeholders, fostering scientific exchange and collaboration.
- Lead the creation of continuous medical education programs to engage external stakeholders and ensure scientific accuracy in country-specific materials.
- Represent the company at relevant scientific meetings, conferences, and forums related to rare diseases.
- Internal Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, and Commercial, ensuring medical insights and compliance are integrated into product strategies.
- Work with market access to demonstrate the value of rare disease treatments to payers and health authorities.
- Provide ongoing support for promotional and non-promotional materials, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
- Medical degree (MD), preferably with specialization in rare diseases or neurology.
- 3-5 years of experience in a medical affairs role within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. Experience in rare diseases is strongly preferred.

Skills & Expertise:
- Strong scientific acumen with experience in rare disease areas.
- Proven ability to build relationships with KOLs, patient organizations, and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish (Portuguese is a plus).
- Strong leadership, project management, and strategic thinking skills.

Travel:
- Willingness to travel 30-40% of the time, as required.
